QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS
Elected officials have the power to ensure affordable, high-quality ECEC for all Ontario children, rich and poor alike. Find out where your local candidates stand on the issue, and what they will do to improve the availability of subsidized childcare.

Here are a few things to ask:

Research demonstrates that high-quality childcare enables all children to perform better at school. Improved school performance means children are more likely to succeed in school and in work, and to become healthy, productive members of society. Will you support improved funding to increase the number of subsidized high-quality ECEC programs in Ontario?

Better caregiver training and lower staff-child ratios in childcare settings improve children's cognitive skills and social competence. Will you support better training for caregivers, lower staff ratios in childcare settings and expansion of regulated ECEC services?

Ottawa has seen no increase in regulated childcare spaces since 1993, despite increasing family need. Will you support an immediate increase in the number of regulated childcare spaces available in the City?

Will you support public investment to provide sufficient childcare services to accommodate 50 percent of all Ontario's children aged three to five by the year 2005?

Given that improved care and educational opportunities early in life significantly reduce health-care costs later on, does it not make sense to invest money in regulated child care?

Why is it that we fully subsidize children's education between the ages of six and 18, but do not provide financial support for the formative early years?
